Jim's Calligraphy Tip o' the Day

Adding Background Designs

When you want to have a design such as clouds or bricks in the background behind your calligraphy, it is best to do the calligraphy first and then add the background around it. Use muted colors for the background so that it will not stand out too prominently. Also leave a little blank space around the letters. This will cause your calligraphy to standout against the background and look very three-dimensional.

If you reverse the process and paint the entire background first and then letter on top of it, the finished product will look very flat and the letters will not stand out properly.
